The Cuban Revolution will be 50 years old as New Year's Day of 2009
arrives. To celebrate this event, Cuba Education Tours of Vancouver,
Canada, is hosting a once-in-a-lifetime 50th Anniversary of the Cuban
Revolution Tour to Cuba from December 27, 2008, to January 3, 2009.
Tour members will join Cubans in celebrating five decades of
resilience, progress, and commitment to peace and social equality.
Over eight days, they'll witness the remarkable achievements of the
revolution first hand.
The group will spend five days in Havana, including New Year's Eve,
and three days in Trinidad, experiencing the best of island music,
dance, art, nature, and history. In the capital, they'll stay at the
Hotel Saint Johns, just off the romantic Malecon seawall. In Trinidad,
they'll lodge at the all-inclusive Resort Hotel Costa Sur, nestled on
the warm, sandy Caribbean shore.
The stay in Havana will include a walking tour of Old Havana with a
special visit to the unique scale model of the historic district. The
group will take an air-conditioned coach tour of the Vedado, Miramar,
and Central Havana neighborhoods with their historic and architectural
attractions. They'll enjoy a private tour of the Museum of the
Revolution led by Dr. Manuel Yepe, participant in the 1959 victory,
former ambassador, and prolific journalist.
Tour members will enjoy Cuban cuisine at the best restaurants and
dance the nights away at favorite Latin jazz clubs. They'll meet
artists at the forefront of Cuban creativity and attend a fiesta put
on by members of a local CDR (Committee for the Defense of the
Revolution). On the social front, they'll hear a special re****t on
"Cuban Society Today" by University of Havana scholar and author Dr.
Martha Nunez. They'll meet with Mariela Castro Espin's CENE*** and the
volunteer group Linea Ayuda, two organizations advancing ***ual
health, education, and AIDS awareness.
No island tour would be complete without visits to cigar and rum
factories, long the mainstays of Cuban economy. But the tour will also
explore Cuba's leading role in organic farming as they visit the
Vivero Organoponico Alamar cooperative and enjoy a tasty lunch from
its gardens. This will be an op****tunity to talk about planet friendly
lifestyles with the farmer hosts.
En route to Trinidad, they'll stop at the tomb of Che Guevara and the
museum dedicated to his life. While in Santa Clara, they'll also see
the site of Che's final decisive battle -- the wreck of the armored
train that sent then-dictator Fulgencio Batista packing on December
31, 1958.
Naturally, the participants will get to know Cienfuegos and Trinidad
well after guided walking tours of their central plazas. And while
they're in the area, how about climbing to the top of the Escambray
Mountains in Soviet army trucks? Exploring an ancient coffee
plantation, dining on yummy peasant cuisine, examining tropical flora
and fauna? They'll do it all! Indeed, many surprises are in store for
North American friends of Cuba on this unforgettable New Year's
celebration.
