Reuters: Cuba to allow sale of computers
Posted on Thu, Mar. 13, 2008
The Cuban government has authorized the sale of computers, DVD copiers
and other electrical equipment such as microwave ovens, the Reuters news
agency re****ted, quoting from a memo circulating on the island.
Reuters said it is the first signal that Cuba's new leader, Raúl Castro,
is following through on his promise to eliminate some of the many
prohibitions that affect daily life on the island and to improve access
to consumer goods.
Cuba has long restricted the sale of some electric goods, arguing that
it needed to conserve energy. Access to the Internet is also limited,
although there have been widespread re****ts of illegal hookups through
corruption.
