Police personnel attached to the St Andrew North Division yesterday
seized more than 3,000 light bulbs in Stony Hill, St Andrew, following
the apprehension of two teens who were travelling in a stolen motor
vehicle.
Re****ts are that the teens, 17 years old and 19 years old, were
travelling in a Toyota Yaris motor car in the area about 1:45 p.m. when
they were stopped and searched by the police. It was then discovered
that the car they were travelling in had been re****ted stolen a few days
earlier.
Subsequent to the discovery, both teens, one of whom is the son of a
People's National Party (PNP) councillor/ caretaker, were accompanied by
the police to a residential address in Stony Hill where the bulbs were
found.
Superintendent Anthony Morris, commanding officer for the St Andrew
North Division, said markings on the bulbs indicate they originated from
Cuba, but that it was still too early to determine whether they were
linked to the controversial Cuban light-bulb project.
Searching for link
"From all indications, they are light bulbs that were made in Cuba," he
said, "(and) we will be continuing in that aspect to see if the bulbs
are indeed linked to the project."
The officer also said the Organised Crime Investigation Division has
been contacted and would be looking further into the discovery.
