I admit I am not familiar with the details.

Living on an island continent does have certain advantages - like no 
land borders with less developed neighbours!

Mind you, the Kiwis do their best to try and make up for it! ;-)

There's presumably nothing wrong with illiterate peasants if they are 
prepared to work and to assimilate.

Not being familiar with the specifics of the mexicanization of the 
southern US states, it would be inappropriate to make further comments.

Well, as there is no chance that she would grant us an interview on that

Never fear - what was not quite achieved at the time is being worked on 
right now.
