 Dawn News TV, the body of the Pakistan opposition leader, who was
assassinated Thursday evening during an election rally at Rawalpindi,
is being flown to the southern province of Sindh. Her husband Asif
Zardari and three teenaged children are flying to Pakistan for the
burial. CRAWFORD, TEXAS: US President George W. Bush telephoned
Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf Thursday to discuss the situation
in the wake of the assassination of former prime minister Benazir
Bhutto, a spokesman said. Bush called Musharraf at 12:15 pm (1815 GMT)
from the Texas ranch where he is vacationing for the rest of the year,
spokesman Scott Stanzel said, giving no details on the conversation
except to say it was "brief." Bush earlier condemned the "cowardly"
assassination of Benazir Bhutto. President, Pervez Musharraf,
expressed profound grief on the assassination of Pakistan Peoples
Party Chairperson, Benazir Bhutto and announced three days mourning
across the country. Addressing the nation on Thursday after the
assassination of Ms Bhutto in Rawalpindi, the President said the
national flag will fly at half-mast in all the government offices for
three days. "I strongly condemn the tragic incident and announce three
days mourning across the country in the honour of Ms Benazir Bhutto,"
he said. President Musharraf said the same terrorists are responsible
for the attack on Benazir Bhutto who are spreading terrorism across
the country. He reiterated the pledged to continue to struggle against
terrorism. He condoled the demise of Ms Bhutto and expressed his
sympathies with all her family members. President Pervez Musharraf
appealed to the nation to remain calm.
