At least on paper Finland seems to have a significantly stronger armed
force than Georgia.

There is a discussion on the current caucasus crisis in the Finnish
politics newsgroup. People there wonder why the tunnel from north to
south ossetia was left in mint condition and why only one Russian
armored brigade had the whole Georgian army on the run - and why it was
allowed to enter unhindered in the first place.
If those blokes are right, and Russians were entering only through this
one single route it looks like it would have favoured the Georgians to
try something similiar as what the Finns did to the USSR in 1939-40
Raate Road battle:

I doubt wether the outcome would have been the same, but it probably
would have bought the Georgians some time. Perhaps I'm underestimating
the im****tance of air superiority here, which in modern times seems to
be key in symmetric warfare.
